Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
- 1 (16 ounce) can refrigerated pizza dough
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- Sour cream, for serving
- Salsa, for serving
- Optional toppings: jalapenos, avocado, lettuce
Instructions
- Prepare the Taco Meat: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess grease.
- Sprinkle the taco seasoning packet over the browned beef. Pour in the 1/2 cup of water. Stir well.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Pizza Dough: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or pizza pan.
- Stretch or roll out the pizza dough to fit your baking sheet.
- Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet.
- (Optional) Pre-bake the dough for 5-7 minutes for a crispier crust.
- Assemble the Taco Pizza: Spread the refried beans evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border.
- Spoon the cooked taco meat over the refried beans, spreading it evenly.
- Sprinkle both the cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese evenly over the taco meat.
- Add any optional toppings that need to be cooked (e.g., jalapenos).
- Bake the Taco Pizza: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool slightly.
- Add Fresh Toppings and Serve: Sprinkle the chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, and chopped green onions over the baked pizza.
- Slice and serve immediately with sour cream and salsa. Offer other toppings like avocado, lettuce, or extra cheese.
Notes
- Spice it up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the taco meat for extra heat.
- Use different meats: Try using ground turkey or shredded chicken instead of ground beef.
- Add beans: Mix black beans or pinto beans into the taco meat for added texture and flavor.
- Make it vegetarian: Use a vegetarian ground beef substitute or simply load up on veggies.
- Crust variations: Use a pre-made pizza crust, a flatbread, or even a tortilla for a quick and easy taco pizza.
- Cheese variations: Use a Mexican cheese blend or pepper jack cheese for a spicier flavor.
- Make it a party: Set up a taco pizza bar with all the toppings and let everyone customize their own slice.
