Ingredients
Scale
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 loaf (about 24 inches) French bread, halved lengthwise
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preparing the Chicken: In a medium bowl, combine the bite-sized chicken pieces with olive oil, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat. Let sit for 10 minutes (optional).
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken. Cook for 6-8 minutes, or until cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F/74°C). Stir occasionally. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Making the Alfredo Sauce: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant.
- Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened slightly.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Continue stirring until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasonings.
- Add the cooked chicken to the Alfredo sauce and stir to combine. Simmer for 2-3 minutes to meld flavors.
- Preparing the Garlic Bread: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
- Spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut sides of the French bread halves.
- Place the bread halves on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and the garlic butter is melted and bubbly.
- Assembling the Chicken Alfredo Garlic Bread: Remove the garlic bread from the oven.
- Spoon the chicken Alfredo mixture generously over the garlic bread halves.
- Sprinkle additional grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- (Optional) Place the assembled garlic bread back in the oven for another 1-2 minutes to melt the cheese slightly.
- Slice into individual servings and serve immediately.
Notes
- Spice it up: Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the Alfredo sauce for a little heat.
- Add vegetables: Sauté some sliced mushrooms, spinach, or broccoli with the garlic for added nutrients and flavor.
- Use different cheese: Try using a blend of Parmesan and Romano cheese for a more complex flavor.
- Make it ahead: You can prepare the chicken Alfredo sauce ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat it gently before assembling the garlic bread.
- Bread options: While French bread is classic, you can also use Italian bread, sourdough bread, or even baguette slices for individual servings.
- Grilled Chicken: For a smoky flavor, grill the chicken instead of pan-frying it.
- Cream Cheese: Add 2 ounces of cream cheese to the Alfredo sauce for extra creaminess. Soften the cream cheese before adding it to the sauce.
- Sun-dried Tomatoes: Add 1/4 cup of chopped sun-dried tomatoes to the Alfredo sauce for a tangy and chewy texture.
- Fresh Herbs: Garnish with fresh basil or oregano for a burst of freshness.
- Wine Pairing: A crisp white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with Chicken Alfredo Garlic Bread.
