These Taco Pinwheels are a tasty and simple appetizer, perfect for gatherings. Made with creamy cheese, savory taco meat, and zesty salsa, they are rolled in flour tortillas and sliced into bite-sized pieces. Garnished with fresh cilantro, they are sure to impress your guests!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled taco meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning
  • 4 large flour tortillas (10-inch size)
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and shredded cheddar cheese. Use a hand mixer or spatula to mix until well combined and creamy.
  2. Add the cooked and crumbled taco meat to the cheese mixture. Ensure the meat is cooled if using leftovers to prevent melting the cream cheese.
  3. Pour in the salsa and stir until evenly mixed.
  4. Add the chopped green onions, sliced black olives, and taco seasoning. Mix again until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  5. Lay one flour tortilla flat on a clean surface or cutting board.
  6. Spread a generous amount of the filling mixture over the entire surface of the tortilla, leaving about a half-inch border around the edges.
  7. Roll the tortilla tightly from one end, tucking in the sides as you go to keep the filling inside.
  8. Place the rolled tortilla seam-side down on the cutting board. Repeat with the remaining tortillas and filling.
  9. Wrap each rolled tortilla tightly in plastic wrap to keep them fresh and maintain their shape.
  10. Place the wrapped pinwheels in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or longer if possible.
  11. Remove the pinwheels from the refrigerator and unwrap them. Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 1-inch thick pieces, wiping the knife with a damp cloth between cuts for clean edges.
  12. Arrange the sliced pinwheels on a serving platter and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired.
  13. Serve with additional salsa or guacamole on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Customize the filling by adding diced bell peppers, jalapeños, or corn for extra texture and flavor.
  • These pinwheels can be prepared a day in advance; just keep them wrapped in the fridge until ready to slice and serve.
