Possum cake

May 1, 2025 by adminDesserts & Sweets

A fun and quirky Possum Cake that looks like a possum but is entirely made from cake, frosting, and decorations. Perfect for a birthday, wildlife-themed party, or a funny surprise.

  • Cake Base: Chocolate or red velvet cake
  • Filling: Chocolate ganache, raspberry jam, or cream cheese frosting
  • Frosting: Gray-tinted buttercream or fondant for the body
  • Decor: Shaped fondant for eyes, tail, ears, and snout

Tip: You can sculpt it 3D-style or use a sheet cake and pipe the design on top.

🥘 Option 2: Savory Possum Cake (Using Real Possum)

In some parts of the rural Southern U.S., opossum meat has been historically used in cooking. A “possum cake” could be a savory pie or loaf similar to a meat pie or terrine.

Traditional-Style “Possum Cake” (Meat Pie)

Ingredients:

  • 1–2 cups cooked, shredded possum meat (ethically sourced, if real)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt, pepper, and herbs to taste (thyme, sage, etc.)
  • 2 eggs (1 for the mix, 1 for brushing)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Pre-made pie crust or biscuit dough

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Mix shredded possum meat with sautéed vegetables, seasoning, 1 beaten egg, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Pack into a crust or form into patties.
  4. Brush with egg wash and bake until golden brown and cooked through (30–40 mins).

Note: Be sure the meat is fully cooked and safe to eat. Always follow proper guidelines when preparing wild game.
