Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (plus more for searing)
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, ground ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk until fully incorporated.
- Place the chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, preferably a few hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting excess drip off, and reserve the marinade. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Pour the reserved marinade over the chicken in the skillet and bring to a gentle simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until smooth. Once the chicken is done baking, remove the skillet from the oven and place it back on the stovetop over medium heat.
- Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet, stirring constantly. Let it simmer for a few minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Return the chicken to the skillet, coating it well with the sauce. Simmer for an additional minute to heat through.
- Plate the chicken breasts and drizzle the thickened honey garlic sauce over the top. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
- Serve with steamed rice or quinoa, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. For an adventurous twist, add a side of stir-fried vegetables.
Notes
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or stovetop, adding a splash of water to keep the sauce moist.
- For longer storage, freeze the chicken in the sauce.
