Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (plus more for searing)
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Chopped green onions, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, olive oil, ground ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Whisk until fully incorporated.
  2. Place the chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, preferably a few hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the chicken from the marinade, letting excess drip off, and reserve the marinade. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat a tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  4. Pour the reserved marinade over the chicken in the skillet and bring to a gentle simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water until smooth. Once the chicken is done baking, remove the skillet from the oven and place it back on the stovetop over medium heat.
  7. Pour the cornstarch mixture into the skillet, stirring constantly. Let it simmer for a few minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
  8. Return the chicken to the skillet, coating it well with the sauce. Simmer for an additional minute to heat through.
  9. Plate the chicken breasts and drizzle the thickened honey garlic sauce over the top. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
  10. Serve with steamed rice or quinoa, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad. For an adventurous twist, add a side of stir-fried vegetables.

Notes

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or stovetop, adding a splash of water to keep the sauce moist.
  • For longer storage, freeze the chicken in the sauce.
