Ingredients

  • 2 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1-inch piece of ginger root
  • 1 cup of spinach or kale
  • 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
  • 1 cup of water or coconut water
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables under cold running water to remove dirt and pesticides.
  2. Peel the carrot and cut it into smaller chunks.
  3. Core the apples and slice them into quarters (skin can be left on or peeled).
  4. Peel the ginger root and slice it into smaller pieces.
  5. Remove tough stems from kale and chop leaves; rinse spinach.
  6. Cut the lemon in half and extract the juice, removing any seeds.
  7. Assemble your juicer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  8. Juice the spinach or kale first, followed by cucumber, apples, and carrot.
  9. Add ginger pieces in between for optimal juicing.
  10. Pour the juice into a large mixing bowl or pitcher.
  11. Stir in the lemon juice and honey (if using) until dissolved.
  12. Add one cup of water or coconut water to the juice mixture.
  13. Adjust sweetness or acidity as desired.
  14. Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or serve immediately over ice.
  15. Garnish with a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint.
  16. Serve immediately for the best flavor and nutrient retention.
