Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for the swirl)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray, or line it with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  8. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the batter and gently swirl it in with a knife or skewer.
  9. Pour the remaining batter on top and spread evenly.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top and create a light swirl.
  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
  12. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
  13. Run a knife around the edges and invert the pan to release the loaf onto a wire rack. Let cool completely.
  14. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Adjust consistency as desired.
  15. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled loaf and let it set for a few minutes before slicing.
  16. Slice the loaf and enjoy!
