Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of frozen puff pastry (2 sheets), thawed
  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Flour, for dusting
  • Optional: fresh berries and mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the heavy cream and chocolate chips over medium heat. Stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Avoid boiling.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until glossy. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. On a floured surface, unfold one sheet of puff pastry and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thick.
  5. Cut the pastry into 4-inch squares. Repeat with the second sheet.
  6. Place a tablespoon of chocolate filling in the center of each square, being careful not to overfill.
  7. Fold each square into a triangle by bringing one corner over to the opposite corner. Press edges to seal and crimp with a fork if desired.
  8. Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  9. Brush the tops with the beaten egg and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Keep an eye on them as baking times may vary.
  11. Let cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
  12. Prepare garnishes like fresh berries and mint leaves.
  13. Serve warm pastries on a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and drizzle with melted chocolate or add whipped cream if desired.
  14. Enjoy the delightful combination of flaky pastry and rich chocolate filling!

Notes

  • Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed for easy rolling and puffing.
  • For a twist, add a pinch of sea salt to the filling or mix in orange zest.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for 1-2 days. Reheat in the oven to regain crispiness.
