Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups of water
- 4 black tea bags (or your favorite tea)
- 1 cup fresh blueberries (plus extra for garnish)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
- Ice cubes
- Fresh mint leaves (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of fresh blueberries and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
- Add 1 cup of water to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
- Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to help the blueberries break down and release their juices.
- After 10 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture into a bowl or jar, pressing down on the blueberries to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.
- In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
- Once the water is boiling, remove it from the heat and add the 4 black tea bags. Let the tea steep for about 5-7 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea.
- After steeping, remove the tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature.
- In a large pitcher, combine the cooled tea and the blueberry syrup. Stir well to mix the flavors together.
- Add 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice to the pitcher.
- Taste the mixture and adjust the sweetness if necessary.
- Cover the pitcher with a lid or plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator. Let it chill for at least 1-2 hours.
- If you’re in a hurry, you can also pour the tea into individual glasses filled with ice to chill it quickly.
- Fill tall glasses with ice cubes.
- Pour the chilled blueberry iced tea over the ice, filling each glass about three-quarters full.
- Garnish each glass with a few fresh blueberries and a sprig of mint.
- If you like, you can also add a slice of lemon to the rim of the glass.
- Take a moment to appreciate the vibrant color and aroma of your iced tea.
- As you take your first sip, notice the balance of sweetness from the blueberry syrup and the tartness from the lemon juice.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness of the syrup according to your taste preference.
- This iced tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
