Best French Toast: A Delicious Recipe for Perfectly Fluffy Breakfast

Enjoy a delightful classic French toast made with thick slices of brioche or challah, soaked in a cinnamon-infused egg mixture. Perfect for breakfast or brunch, it’s served warm with maple syrup and optional toppings like powdered sugar and fresh berries for a delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices of thick bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Maple syrup, for serving
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • Fresh berries, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and whisk until smooth. Add 1 cup of whole milk, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk until well combined and slightly frothy.
  2. Lay out 8 slices of thick bread (brioche or challah) on a clean surface or cutting board.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, coating both sides thoroughly. Soak for about 10-15 seconds on each side, allowing excess batter to drip off before placing on a plate.
  4. In a large skillet or griddle, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted and bubbling, carefully place the soaked bread slices in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side.
  5. Transfer the cooked French toast to a warm plate or a baking sheet in a low oven (around 200°F) to keep warm. Stack a few slices on a plate, drizzle generously with maple syrup, and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Garnish with fresh berries for a pop of color.
  6. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious homemade French toast!

Notes

  • Bread Choice: Brioche and challah are recommended for their rich texture, but feel free to experiment with other types like sourdough or cinnamon raisin.
  • Soaking Time: Allow the bread to soak longer for more flavor, but avoid making it too soggy.
  • Temperature Control: Maintain medium heat to ensure even cooking without burning.
  • Add-Ins: Consider adding a splash of orange juice or a pinch of nutmeg to the batter for a unique twist.
