Golden, crispy bread layered with savory ham and gooey mozzarella—this comforting classic is simple yet packed with flavor. Perfect as a quick snack, lunch, or party appetizer!
4 thick slices of rustic bread (sourdough, Italian, or baguette)
4 slices of cooked ham (prosciutto cotto or deli-style)
1 cup shredded or sliced mozzarella
1 tbsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, halved (optional, for rubbing on the bread)
Salt & black pepper, to taste
Optional: 1 tsp dried oregano or a few fresh basil leaves for garnish
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Lightly brush each bread slice with olive oil. If using garlic, rub the cut side over the bread for an extra layer of flavor.
Top each slice with one piece of ham and a generous layer of mozzarella.
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and oregano (if using).
Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and starting to bubble.
For extra browning, switch to broil for the last 1–2 minutes.
Serve hot and melty, optionally garnished with fresh basil or a drizzle of olive oil.
Perfect with a green salad or tomato soup.
